“Pull over. I see a heron!” These are real words I’d use in South Carolina whenever I saw a blue heron by the lake or marsh. I had to try to take a photo. And my husband would sweetly oblige and pull over while I tried to convince a giant bird to not move, while I clicked away on my phone.

Imagine my surprise when going for a walk in our neighborhood in Montana, when I saw what looked like a heron flying overhead. I quickly googled, “Do herons live in Montana?” on my phone and found out the happy truth: they do!

The colors, the long legs, the huge wingspan… I’m not sure what it is (maybe all of the above), but I love these birds so much and will never tire of painting them. They just make me happy.
